Welcoming visitors is one of the best-known features of Benedictine life.
A time for spiritual renewal A day or more at the abbey of Sainte-Madeleine du Barroux is an opportunity to experience silence, to rediscover closeness and personal contact with God, to enrich prayer through contact with the monks, to take stock of one's life, and even to hear a call to a life totally given over to God.
We can receive gentlemen and young people on individual retreat for up to a week.
A stay of this kind allows you to take part in the monks' prayer - liturgical services sung in Gregorian, and therefore in Latin (booklets with a French translation are made available to them at the beginning of the services), time for silent prayer - and to associate themselves, to a certain extent, with the life of the Community: guests have an individual cell, eat their meals with the monks, and listen to the readings with them in the refectory.
- They can meet with a Father for spiritual talks, you can also go to confession in the confessional at certain times.
- In addition to the few books they will find in their cell, a library and reading rooms.
- It is possible for them to go for a walk around the abbey, and those who wish to do so can carry out work to help the community.
